Where are the people that I’m reaching?
Keeping track of activity in the field is difficult in the best of circumstances, and can be further complicated if people are relocating due to conditions or conflict. PotaVida's usage data capture enables you to know the location of every household from which your staff have collected data. In fact, we can even differentiate by which staff is working with which community. The map below shows all the locations where staff downloaded data from Smart Solar Purifiers in a program area, colored by specific community.
Data Driven Insight: In this program the implementing organization is successfully reaching communities inland from arterial roads, and for whom access to safe water is most difficult.
Advanced Application: Our mobile app records the location of every purifier data transfer between end user and field staff. PotaVida can also report the changes in location for each one, showing movement of purifiers and their users over time.
How does actual usage compare with user instructions?
A fundamental question in aid and development is: Am I producing my desired outcomes with this intervention? To PotaVida this means that an item was used correctly; it does not mean handing out items that go unused. To answer this question for our Smart Solar Purifier, we analyze captured usage data and provide field staff daily reports on user behavior.
Users are instructed to start their Smart Solar Purifiers first thing in the morning, to maximize chances of getting safe water the same day in variable weather conditions. The chart below is a histogram showing the number of people starting their purifier at each hour of the day.
Data Driven Insight: The majority of the population is correctly following the directions and starting their purifiers early in the morning.
Advanced Application: PotaVida can customize analysis of your data to contrast the behavior among different geographic contexts, time periods, or which staff interacted with users.
